Yoga and Walking Atlas Mountain Escape

March 2 - March 5, 2025

“It was my first time in Morocco and I loved it all. Thank you to Lucia, Darren and Vikki.” - Sue L, February 2023

Welcome to our Atlas Mountain Yoga Retreat

Blow away winter cobwebs with a life-enhancing stay at our beloved Berber castle-styled venue in the glorious Atlas Mountains. Drink in panoramic mountain vistas during guided hikes or whilst resting by the pool. Twice-daily Mindful Yoga on our practice terrace (see below clip) or studio will be followed by delicious Moroccan meals. A trip to savour.

Your retreat experience

We first visited this exceptional Atlas Mountain hideaway well over a decade ago and were immediately captivated by the lush gardens and far-reaching views from every room and terrace. We are always so excited to return, especially when welcoming guests here on retreat!

Nestling in glorious landscaped gardens where almonds, fig and olive trees abound, this eco-conscious retreat is crafted from local stone and fashioned in the style of a Kasbah (castle), in traditional Berber design.

Breathtaking views of the surrounding High Atlas are present from the many terraces and bedrooms, enhanced by the luminous light that has drawn artists and writers to North African for centuries. Colours and textures are constantly changing.

Against this rejuvenating background you are free to to do as little or as much as you choose. Long days are framed around twice daily Mindful Yoga and three meals a day when we come together as a group.

Whether travelling on retreat solo or with a partner or friend, expect to live and eat well, nurturing mind body wellbeing with mountain air, movement, true relaxation and the affirming coming together - at mealtimes and for classes - with like-minded people.

“Why go? To completely reboot your mind and body. Satvada Retreats runs a variety of three and five-day yoga and meditation breaks in beautiful locations.... Whether you’re a yoga buff or a newbie, travelling solo or with a friend, these retreats are super-friendly. Every day is properly structured but also very relaxed, so you can join in as much or as little as you like.”

Our Yoga and Meditation

Twice-daily Yoga and Meditation classes will be held in the Kasbah’s studio or, weather depending, on the sweeping roof terrace where views of the High Atlas Mountains are at their most spectacular. Our morning sessions will be more dynamic and flowing though suitable for most, whilst evening classes will be soft and reflective, comprising very gentle practices, including lying down and seated meditation.

Yoga beginners are welcome: guests should have a reasonable level of fitness and be able to get on and off the floor easily. Please do contact us before booking to discuss if you are unsure. We are delighted to welcome experienced Yoga and Meditation teacher and Yoga Therapist Vikki Stevenson to teach his retreat for us. Read more about Vikki below.

“I had a great time on retreat. The yoga was a perfect balance between challenge and consolidation... I found the teaching so professional and thorough. Yoga on the roof in the sun in the mornings, and the restorative yoga in the evenings made for such a beautiful experience! The food was delicious and healthy. I could go on and on as I had such a wonderful time - Morocco, the venue, the yoga, the people; it all surpassed my best expectations and I'm already saving for next year, when I will tag on some additional days!” - Claire R

Optional hikes from the door

Hiking is not included in your retreat booking. Guests opting to take guided hikes from the door organise this direct with the hotel’s reception team by a certain time the previous day. Payment to be settled direct with the hotel on departure.

Hikes are approximately three hours’ long and, given the precipitous terrain, can be described as moderately challenging. Most guests tell us - and we agree! - that hikes are a highlight of a stay here, taking us across streams, woodland and pastures, through a patchwork of emerald-green fields sprinkled with Cacti, Olive and Argan trees.

Morocco’s vivid colours are present in the contrast of the blues of the sky and the burnt orange base of the rock. It is common to meet shepherds tending to their goats and we skirt ancient Berber villages with our brilliant guide, Abdel, pointing out native plants and trees along the way.

“I can't recommend Satvada enough for the first-time yoga retreater!” - Elena G

Our food offering

We include three nourishing meals a day, rustled up by the Kasbah’s chefs! Food is wholesome and balanced: expect lots of delicious local breads, cereal and eggs (or our favourite, eggs Berber) for breakfast, buffet-style soups and salads for lunch and a hearty stew for example) with rice or couscous for dinner.

Both vegetarian and meat options will be available. It is usually possible to cater for vegan diets or special requirements - please check before booking.

“To visit Morocco is still like turning the pages of some illuminated Persian manuscript all embroidered with bright shapes and subtle lines.” – Edith Wharton

Your home away from home

Accommodation is comfortable, peaceful and spacious (rather than luxurious) with a boutique yet rustic feel befitting the rural setting.

Bedrooms, all of which are en-suite, are traditionally designed with Moroccan materials: cedar and eucalyptus wood, red sandstone, hand-made clay tiles, locally-made furniture with Berber motifs. Bedrooms are separate from the main building and boast a small terrace with beautiful views of either the gardens or the valley below.

The Kasbah is built and run with the environment at the forefront: the water supply is solar powered and a biomass boiler has recently been installed. All guests’ plastic water bottles are recycled. Rooms have been sustainably crafted and re-purposed from local materials.

  • Dusk over the Kasbah gardens, the Atlas Mountains beyond framed in soft evening light

  • Traditional moroccan comfort with a touch of style

  • Comfort and elegance

  • Spacious and traditional ensuite rooms

Our teacher

Experienced Yoga and Meditation teacher and Yoga Therapist Vikki Stevenson will teach this retreat.

Vikki says she loves teaching on retreat as it offers a container to go deeper into the practices and a safe space for students to explore without returning to normal life after an hour’s class: ‘It is wonderful to see the change in people over a few days of being on retreat, how their whole being can soften; such an honour to witness.’

Alongside Mindfulness and the importance of how we breathe, Vikki incorporates her therapeutic knowledge into her teaching, enabling guests to come into the present moment and find a greater sense of ease and calm - physically, emotionally, energetically and mentally.

“Thank you to Satvada for such a wonderful Yoga & Hiking holiday in the Atlas Mountains. I had an absolutely wonderful time on the retreat - it was a beautiful venue, I made amazing new friends and got to enjoy incredible yoga/hiking... I feel like a new person! I'm looking forward to hopefully enjoying another trip with you this year; I can't recommend you highly enough.”
