NEW Retreat: New Year Yoga Escape, central Marrakech, Morocco

December 30, 2026 - January 2, 2027

Thank you so much for a wonderful time. We both loved the yoga retreat. And it was a wonderful way to explore Marrakech.
— Cat W, February 2024

Hosted by a gorgeous, trusted Riad, our New Year Marrakech Yoga Escape promises enriching Mindful Yoga, wonderful brunches, afternoon tea, candlelit dinners in the beautiful salon. Max nine guests.

Your retreat experience

This coming New Year we are super-excited to be back in beautiful Morocco, this time based at our trusted partner Riad in the heart of Marrakech’s fascinating medina.

Our intention is to offer an enriching, mind-expanding few days in the heart of this evocative city, where twice-daily mindful yoga and lovingly crafted, home-cooked meals offer a structure around which guests are free to do as much or little as they choose.

Our Riad offers a remarkably peaceful sanctuary from the energy of the surrounding city. We host a maximum of just nine guests, making this an unusually small retreat with a highly personal, relaxed feel.

We have had the pleasure of working with this French and Moroccan-run Riad for well over a decade and always love being in this beautiful space, and having the opportunity to connect with the wonderfully welcoming and efficient Moroccan cooks and staff.

Our morning and evening courtyard Mindful Yoga sessions are followed by a lovingly prepared Moroccan brunch or evening meal whilst a delicious afternoon tea comes in the form of traditional home-made cake (such as traditional orange or almond cake), almonds, mint tea or English breakfast tea!

In between these treats your day is your own. Rest into long days relaxing with a massage or reading a book on the sunny roof terrace, or choose to adventure into the city: our retreat Riad is ten minutes’ walk from the famous Jemaa el Fna square.

BOOKING OPENING SHORTLY

Though I approached the retreat with some trepidation I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. I still feel relaxed and energised at the same time. The calm sanctuary of the Riad balanced beautifully with the colours and chaos of the medina. Who knew the group would make me feel so welcome ? Thank you.

Yoga & Meditation: what to expect

Highly accessible yoga and meditation sessions are enjoyed in the beautiful private courtyard with its plunge pool, birdsong and olive trees. Our aim on retreat is to offer Yoga and Meditation teaching led with inclusivity, sensitivity and depth. Plenty of options will be given and it is our pleasure to welcome many guests who are brand new, or relatively new, to these practices. Although they are ancient practices, we believe their benefits have never been more important or relevant, offering life-enhancing tools to lead us towards more physical and mental ease.

Morning sessions will be active and flowing though still mindfully taught and suitable for most people (please do get in touch if you are unsure). Evening sessions will be extremely gentle, underscored by Mindfulness, Guided Relaxation and breathing practices that invite us more deeply into our bodies and senses. The first practice of the retreat will usually be on the morning after arrivals, ending with Yoga and brunch on the final morning.

We are delighted to welcome experienced Yoga teacher Sarah Sadler to teach our New Year 2026 / 27 retreat. There is more about Sarah below.

Derived from the Arabic word ‘Ryad’ meaning garden, these fascinating traditional buildings, of which our host venue is one, are formed around a beautiful central courtyard to allow complete privacy: a peaceful, sensual sanctuary filled with birdsong and the scent of slow-cooked tagines.

Our food offering

Mealtimes form one of the many special experiences of a Morocco Yoga Retreat. Moroccan cooking is naturally wholesome and flavour-filled, characterised by seasonal fare and typical seasonal desserts. The cuisine naturally lends itself to the retreat’s all-vegetarian dishes. We aim to offer a tasty, balanced and thoroughly Moroccan culinary experience, rustled up by the Riad’s fabulous cooks.

For each full day of the retreat we’ll have a wonderful apres-yoga brunch (with eggs, pancakes, local honey, yoghurt), afternoon tea (for example orange cake and mint / breakfast tea) and two-course evening meal (think slow-cooked vegetable tagines followed by oranges with cinnamon). There will be an evening meal on the first night and brunch on the last morning.

Our mealtimes are sociable occasions where the group comes together in the atmospheric lounge with its open fire.

All food will be vegetarian. We can usually cater for vegans or those with particular requirements: please contact us to discuss.

Your teacher

Sarah has been teaching yoga for over 25 years, with a broad background that includes Iyengar and Hatha Yoga, meditation, Thai Yoga massage and dance.

As well as training with Birthlight for mother and baby yoga, she has also trained specifically for Yoga therapy for chronic fatigue and ME.

Sarah ensures her classes are inclusive and accessible for all, marrying the specifics of alignment and body awareness alongside a breath-orientated mindful approach.  She aims to ensure her students can take their practice home with them and gain a greater understanding of their own bodies and minds.

As a Thai massage practitioner she teaches with a therapeutic approach to the practice, modifying yoga for individuals’ needs and issues, and ensuring that everyone can benefit from the physical and mental health improvements that yoga can bring.

Sarah teaches in and around Chelmsford, Essex, including leading long-running, very popular classes at our own studio, Yoga at the Mill.

I had an incredible experience. The yoga sessions were top-notch, providing a perfect blend of challenge and relaxation. Our Riad was fabulous, offering a serene and comfortable environment. The food was delicious and the wonderful company and positive energy of the retreat made for an unforgettable trip. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a rejuvenating, enriching escape.

Extras! Additional nights, city tours, massage

Many guests choose to extend their stay either before or after the retreat, adding extra time for relaxation or exploration - or a balanced blend of both! If available, additional nights may be booked before or after the retreat, with these bookings made directly with the Riad.

Similarly, you may wish to book an onsite massage (our February 2024 guests raved about their massages!) taken at the dedicated treatment room at the Riad. Depending on the availability of local Moroccan guides it is usually possible to arrange a city tour.

Additional nights, city tours and massages are settled directly with the Riad. Whilst extra nights can be settled by card, massages and city tours are usually paid for in Moroccan Dirham (to be confirmed during the trip), directly to the organiser.
