Top five things to see in the Croatian city of Split
The Satvada team have now been travelling to Croatia for around two years - and we love it. The food is incredible, the coastlines beautiful and the people enduringly friendly. Our yoga holidays in Croatia are hosted by the lovely Island of Brac – a 45-minute ride from the pretty city of Split. As such, we have got to know the Split pretty well.
Since our retreats typically run over five nights, guests tend to tag an extra night or two on and one of the most frequent questions that we receive is “what is there to see in Split?”. So, with this in mind, we have put together a list of our favourite place to see – these are, in our minds, Split’s top attractions. We hope you enjoy:
Our top 5
Diocletian's Palace – A stunning ancient Roman Palace in the centre of old Split. Top tip: It can get really busy, so arrive early.
Marjan Park – a beautiful tranquil park on the edge of the old city. Very popular with locals and tourists alike, it is a delight to spend a few hours wandering. Top tips: 1. Come prepared with food and drink – there is a café, but this gets really busy. 2. If you fancy a little swimming, you can do as the locals do and go for a quick dip at various points at the edges of the park.
Day trip to Brac – Supetar (the main town of Brac) is a mere 45 minutes ride from the port of Split. A pretty unassuming place that is nice to wander, have lunch and enjoy an ice cream. Sit in one of the many port side cafes and restaurants and watch the world go by. Alternatively, head over to Milna and hire a boat. Top tip: go for lunch – if you eat meat, Lamb is the delicacy of this Island
Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius – Enjoy stunning 360 degree views of the old city and beyond. Top tip: Go early – it can get very busy at times.
Visit Krka National Park – A beautiful place that is difficult to do justice in a day. However, it is takes just a couple of hours to reach the National Park. Top tip: If you are short on time, head to Krka Waterfalls and Sibenik town.
